One tool to drive traffic in your website  is to have thousand of Twitter followers. According to Carlo Ople there are two ways of getting a thousand twitter followers:

1. Follow everyone you find on Twitter

If you literally follow anyone on twitter they would surely follow you and their followers might also follow you. If the goal is to spam them with your tweet updates then this will be good for you. But it might not be good in the end because you might not get your target niche. Remember that you are tweeting because you want to reach same network with same interest. So it is up to you who are you going to follow on twitter that you will surely get in touch with.

2. Become Famous

a. Celebrities

Nothing beats celebrities when it comes to popularity. So if you want to have thousand of followers you have to become a celebrity.

b. Politicians

Politicians are same level with celebrities in terms of popularity. In order to get thousand of followers one must become a politician. Specially here in the Philippines while election is near. Majority of the politicians uses twitter as a campaign tool so that they will get many followers.

c. Sports Icons

Sports Icons are also famous people.  Be one of them and for sure you will get followed by thousand of fans.

After reading Carlo Ople’s post about this I realized the essence of twitter. He said

“People become so obsessed with bringing up their follower numbers that they sometimes miss the point of Twitter. Twitter, like other forms of social media, is not a one-night stand. It’s a long term engagement which is built on the foundation of trust. Get only the people that matter to follow you: your customers, partners, the media, etc. Forget about everyone else because it’s useless to have them in your stream (unless you really just want to use Twitter as a traffic generator). Don’t get discouraged when you only have 100 or 200 followers. As long as those are the people that have a direct impact on your life then there’s nothing wrong with just having them follow you.”
